Much similarity between covid pandemic and opioid epidemic

There is a small element to truth to each, meaning that covid does exist and that people die from it, and opiates are real and people die from overdosing on them too.

The rest: what we see on the news, cdc resources, social media, real life Karen's- is extreme overreaction due to extreme overexaggeration. Fudged numbers, sensational headlines, and job scared medical professionals all work in tandem to peddle this. The human race just soaks it up as fact because it is presented as fact.

This isn't a research paper, it's a reminder to think. I'm probably preaching half to the choir and half to soy boys wanting me to have my mandatory covid vaccine, but I'm hoping there are a few on here that just need a little nudge. Just think things through. Why is all this being pushed so unnaturally hard and surrounded by such blatant propaganda?

In before cousin's friend's dog's walker Billy Bob died from covid or prescription pills. I'm sorry if you know someone in either of those scenarios- that is the exception not the rule.

It is usually about money, this time it seems to be about control which goes hand in hand with power.
I dont know if money is the or one of the major factors in this game but a bunch is being tossed around.

It probably IS about money now that you said it. Some way they came up with that will control people as the dollar loses its position as the world reserve currency and collapses to zero in value

When I read the OP all I could think of was....

I am a veteran of the War on Covid. Wounded in combat against the virus. It's real, very real and horrible.

No one has the right to live free of restrictions, run a business, earn a living, if it means that others, like me, have to suffer from the effects of the virus! Nothing you think you are entitled to is worth the suffering I endured.

I am disabled now but thankfully I have a good attorney to file my SSI disability claim.

I had Covid but beat it! I think myself and others who've had the illness due to other Americans' insufferable need for freedom should ALL be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom!

The psychological effects of having a very mild headache for two days and losing my sense of smell FOR A FREAKING WEEK! are lingering and will likely stay with me for the rest of my life! Don't even get me started on the one time I think I had to blow my nose! I mean have you ever made an outstanding bolognese sauce but then couldn't smell the garlic? I was traumatized. I could only force myself to eat two helpings!

This madness has to stop! All restaurants should be closed! All business suspended! People should remain indoors and everyone stay in their own room, and keep a mask on! (I even wear one in the shower, can't be too safe) Remember! We're ALL in this TOGETHER!

I know 14 people that died of opioid (including Heroin and Fentanyl) overdoses during 2020. At least 3 were intentional, but the rest were addicts that struggled with opioid addiction.

I personally know 0 people that have died of covid.

You tell me which one is really killing people...

I doubt the OP is saying opioids aren't a problem for some, I think he's saying the Draconian overreaction by the State and fear mongering are a problem. People who are in pain shouldn't have to suffer. Just like Covid, people have to estimate and decide if they want to risk an adverse effect from use/exposure. Most people handle pain meds fine and do not succumb to addiction. The over reaction makes doctors hesitant to prescribe effective pain relievers for fear of prosecution or lawsuits. It's really too much. And yes, I've lost people to drugs too. No one is trying to negate that emotional pain but the "group punishment" mentality in the U.S. is ridiculous.

Greta, I am not going to let your disability rule my life. I don't know why they think so much of your irrational statements. As for me, a red blood bleeding free American, I despise you and the people holding you in such high regard. But you are right about having the sniffles being a valid reason to close a country. The politicians needed a scapegoat to blame so they aren't caught, hung upside down in the streets while getting the well deserved tar and feathers.

I hardly find that the current prescription laws are draconian in any aspect except for cost.

Choosing not to prescribe them is at the discretion of the doctor. That is their personal choice and not legislated.

We are comparing two completely different things in regards to government reaction.

Agreed but doctors have been made to feel fearful when prescribing pain meds and people suffer needlessly. They are fearful of being arrested for running "pill mills." Pain meds are the absolute least expensive medications I've ever been prescribed, usually about $4 - $11 per bottle (not a co-pay, that's the cost). Janumet on the other hand (for diabetes) is outrageous.
