"Must Have Carry Permit"

Just a couple of questions.

In a state where one isn't required to have a carry permit to legally carry, why are some people asking to see a carry permit?
It's your gun. I understand this. If I've been posting here for 10 years, have positive feed back and all that, do you still need to see my carry permit?

It’s simple. If I don’t know you, seeing your CWP lets me know that you had a background check and passed it. I’ve never had a problem asking for a peek. I don’t take a picture and I don’t ask for a bill of sale. Peace of mind. Plain and simple.

It's an 'easy' way of establishing that you aren't a felon. Without outright asking if you're a felon or some other category of prohibited person. Also, by implication, that you're a GA resident.

Well it's possible that the person you deal with and check their permit IS a felon. Anyone can be arrested and bonded out and still have their permit. Sure arrested doesn't equal a conviction but... It usually does in GA. And that person could still be holding on to an unexpired permit.
Point is I understand why some people insist on it especially if they were the ones that bought the gun new and filled out the 4473. They want something to show where the gun went after them. But it's far from a foolproof plan. In theory you COULD actually fill out a BOS and provide proof for the state and or fed that YOU sold a gun to a felon by showing them said BOS if and when they come asking about it.

I’ve put a few things I have for sale in possession of a friend/FFL. I’m out of town on business indefinitely and if someone I don’t personally know wants to buy one of my guns from the shop, it will be a 4473 transfer. If he’s willing to help me out, I’m willing to piss you off by sheltering him of any guesswork.
