Put together my first Ar tonight. With the exception of a detent flying across the room and some minor finish loss, it went together well.:)

Now I need some ammo to test it out!

Delton Upper
NFA lower with Dpms Parts kit (Thanks ClassicCityFirearms)
Doublestar Stock kit (Thanks wwboater)

The detent and spring always flies across the room. The last time I put a lower together, my detent flew into a large box of 9mm brass I had sitting on the floor. The best tip I've ever found is to install the detent and spring inside a gallon Ziploc bag.

I clip two coils off the spring so the detent will sill just inside the hole on its own. Then its just a matter of compressing the detent and spring with the pin, and simply pushing it in.

Does this rifle you built have a low profile gas block under the hand guard and a fake gas block sight post up front? If the front sight post is actually functioning as the gas block, you will have problems with misfeeds and/or failure to eject. Most dissipators I've seen put together correctly have a carbine length gas tube and block hidden under the rifle length hand guard. Having a rifle length gas tube on a carbine length barrel is a recipe for failure. I think the magic number is that you need at least 6 inches of barrel out in front of the gas block. Any less and you don't have enough gas pressure to properly eject the spent cartridge.

One tip, I have also started using a razor blade to press down the front take down pin detent. Then push the pin in and slide the razor blade out from under the take down pin.

Yep, it's no fun sitting at the kitchen table and your wife asks what went whizzing by her head and you are crawling on hands and knees for 10 minutes.....hate those little F'ers!!

Nice build, looks sharp!

Del tons dissipator uppers are rifle length gas on a carbine barrel with an enlarged gas port. They work great, and is the same science used to make 7.5, 10.5, 11.5, & 12.5 uppers work correctly. Done right, there is nothing wrong with rifle length gas on a carbine barrel. I own both, and both function 100% . That said, I prefer rifle length gas as two gas blocks tends to make the gun nose heavy.

Do the DelTons have trouble with steel case ammo? Steel cases contract a little more slowly than brass after they are fired. I've heard that some of the SBRs have trouble ejecting the steel cases because of the shorter action and longer case cool down time. I've seen cases where the lip of the case has literally been torn off by the extractor because the case wasn't cooled down enough to come out of the chamber yet.

Here is an example of one like I'm talking about.
