Being a law abiding citizen I was curious as to what process was in place for people owning bump fire stocks. Since the things are so deadly I was certain a fail safe process had been implemented to insure no unfortunate owners of one ended as a felon or worse.
1st phone call. Local Police Department. Response, nope don't want it. Call the Sheriff's Department.
2nd phone call. Sheriff's Department. Response, nope don't want it. Call the Police Department.
3rd phone call. ATF office Atlanta. Response, after a pregnant pause and apparent conversation with others in the room. Let me give you the phone number for the NFA office. Short for National Firearms Act.
4th phone call. NFA office North Virginia. After being on hold for a Loooonnnnngggg time I speak with someone who's 1st question is, why don't you call your local ATF office? After explaining that I had and they referred me to the NFA office. So again I ask, what is the proper protocol for disposing of a bump fire stock.
No response, although I could here radio traffic it reached the point I'm going hello, hello are you there?
The eventual response. Take a picture of the destroyed stock and mail the picture and a letter to our offices here in West Va.
So, apparently because of my one phone call a process is now in place.
