My rifle is now complete........ 300 AAC Black Out

the #s don't quite match up. there's a price for sticky a fat bullet in a short case, not enuff room for powder. the velocity & energy #s for the commie 7.62 is still HIGHER than the 300.
a .30 cal in your AR15 that has better balistics than the 7.62X39. Evil sbr :)

from Wikipedia:

300 BLACK:
125 gr (8.1 g) OTM 2,215 ft/s (675 m/s) 1,360 ft·lbf (1,840 J)
220 gr (14 g) OTM 1,010 ft/s (310 m/s) 498 ft·lbf (675 J)
------------------------------------------
7.62 commie:
123 gr (8.0 g) 731.5 m/s (2,400 ft/s) 2,073.6 J (1,529.4 ft·lbf)

So the 300 Blk is 300 ft per sec slower..... BFD.

From the 300 BLK web site
Full power 115-125 grain ammunition matches the ballistics of the 7.62x39mm AK, and eclipses 5.56mm with much higher-mass projectiles for a more dramatic effect on the target. Or choose subsonic cartridges for optimal use with a sound suppressor - 220 grain Sierra OTM (open-tip match) bullets vastly outperforms a 9mm MP5-SD in penetration and long range accuracy.

The AK sucks to suppress!!!!.

Sorry you don't like the round. I don't like Keltecs or Rock Islands... but thats just me. To each his own.

Energy of 300blk is slightly better than 7.62x39 from a 9" and 16" barrel - depending on bullet weights. The 2 are very similar, but the 300 edges out in my book because of the platform it can be used with. Page 26

WHY
NOT
7.62x39mm?
7.62x39mm was eliminated from consideration
• Extreme Cartridge Taper
– Reduces reliability of feeding in AR Magazines
– Reduces Magazine capacity
– Exacerbates the AR Bolt’s weaknesses
• Cartridge taper induces considerably higher bolt thrust
• Requires a larger Bolt Face which reduces Bolt Locking Lug strength
• Limited Projectile Selection
– 0.311” not a common option in most modern bullets

WHY
7.62x35mm?
300 BLACKOUT (7.62x35mm) is better because:
• Standard 5.56mm Cartridge Taper
– AR Magazines were designed to feed this taper
– Maintains Magazine capacity
– Minimizes strain on AR Bolt’s weaknesses
• Cartridge taper maintains standard resistance to bolt thrust
• Utilizes a standard AR Bolt Face, to retain Bolt Locking Lug strength
• Wide Projectile Selection
– 0.308” possibly the most popular center fire rifle bullet in history
– Wide Projectile Selection
• Proven Track Record
– Pioneering work by JD Jones with the 300 Whisper®, and others with 300 Fireball and
300-221, have proven the concept.

300 aac is a better route to go if you want ak performance out of an ar. Kudos to the developers! Just getting ready to build an upper and load a few thousand rounds. Will eventually get rid of most of my aks then. One platform with multiple options makes better sense from a training standpoint. Combine that with a glock 40 caliber with drop in conversion barrels and you have the ultimate shtf weapons systems!
