My south

I was born in Ohio and grew up moving all over in the Air Force. When I came to Georgia 14 years ago I proudly declared to all of my friends that I was a yankee. The ways of the South grew on me though, and now I know I will be a Georgia boy until the day I die!

My parents were both yankees'. Dad a career Marine. I was born at Parris Island (USNH Beaufort) and raised in the Corps and in the South. After being transfered to Ga many years ago, Dad used to BMC (B_ _ch, Moan and Complain) about all the things wrong down here for several years. Then I remember after he retired and opened his bait & tackle shop, a guy from Jersey came in one day and started a big fuss about what Idots and how backwards all these Ga hicks were, and on and on. To my shck and awe, he told the guy to just hold righthere for a minute, " There was a F _ _in Bus leavin Trailways every hour heading back North, and did he need help finding the Station" and if not to kindly get the H_ _ _ out of his store". Now although there is a Family plot in Lancaster, NY. Mom & Dad rest at Andersonville, Ga. they didn't want it any other way, and I miss them both.
I married a Genuine Georgia "GRITS" ( That's "Girls Raised in The South" for you Yankees) girl. And tomorrow will be 31 years. Been here at the hospital for anther week, (100+ weeks in 8 years) so sorry for any spelling errors kinda dark in the room. Next to My wife, is Georgia and of course the DAWGS!!

Why do they all pass up Georgia and go straight to Florida?

Yes, the weather.

A Yankee buddy of mine asked me not to long ago in a laughing manner, "Why do you dumb-asses still fly a flag in the back of your truck that is symbolic of defeat"? I didn't have a good answer..

For me The Flag is not a symbol of defeat. It reminds me of the brave men (both black and white) who chose to fight against tyranny and the ever encroaching Federal Government. It is a tangible link to my brave ancestors who fought for the ideals of state's rights and freedom from oppression. It is a reminder for me to take pride in my heritage and culture as a son of the old South. The Flag reminds me to be an individual, self sufficient, to live free and to be prepared to defend my way of life.

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish."

Parents are from Upstate NY. I have only lived in the north, NY, IL, and KS. I came to the south for a change of scenery to start my masters degree at Valdosta State. I think I may just be retiring up north from the south after the completion of my masters. While I have met some nice people down here, many I have met many more assholes and while i try to not let walmart dictate my opinions of people, I cannot remember the last time I heard a thank you for holding a door open or letting some one walk in front of me in a place of biz. I try to say it all the time to everyone to be polite, but what is considered southern hospitality?

Those people CAN'T BE true southerners, If you held a door for my wife or even me you would get a hardy Thank You for sure. If you held it for me, I would most likely insist that you go first and hold it for you sir.
