My yard dwelling wildlife is getting shot.

Either you concede they're a pest, or you don't.

If you see them as a pest, help the man out and deal with the varmint problem on your own property, which removes any reason why he might want to trespass.

If you don't see them as a pest, tell him you want him to stop trespassing, but recognize that he's going to surround your property with traps.
You can see them as a pest and still not want your neighbor on, or shooting on your property.

Sure. I wouldn't either - whether I thought they were a pest or not. The issue is that Greg seems to be hosting Groundhog Gaza. I can understand why someone might be acting somewhat foolishly. It's time for Greg to have that man-to-man talk.

I understand that and maybe I worded it incorrectly. I was referring specifically towards the people that have the landowners permission. Just because you have permission doesn’t mean you can go wild.

I’ve had written permission to hunt properties. I always talked to the landowner within a week prior to hunting. It helps keep everyone happy
That's a very respectful and diplomatic way of going about it. Props to you buddy.

We had permission to hunt in several properties in Oklahoma. One for each species we harvested. We always told the owner we were coming out just to make sure nobody was working on the property when we showed up. It just good common courtesy. If we were successful or not we always called back and thanked the owner for him letting us go out and we always cleaned up after ourselves meticulously. Even the shot shells if we were hunting with a shotgun.

Hope you found that wad too..

No I don't think we could have found the wad. Well it took 20 minutes of soaking and I took the bolt apart and scrubbed it and replaced a little spring so he will be back in the hunt soon. I haven't seen any groundhogs in the last month or so. He says the running count is 58 so he had pretty much committed mad hogaside. Oh well they will be back sooner or later they will be back.

The reason I hate to confront him or report him is he is a good friend. However, he is the type to drop you as a friend at the first discretion. I think I will leave him alone since there is always more coming. Plus I have deer, squirrels, chipmunks, chickens and guinea fowl to look at. It will all work out in the end. Perhaps I am being a bit finicky.

Maybe have a talk with him and go over killing problem animals vs killing all of them? My grandpa let some dove hunters hunt his 100acre farm one year…..they brought all their buddies and hunted for 2 weeks. We didn’t see any doves for almost 3 years. I know some animals are pests but you should always leave a breeding pair if possible. If he really is a friend, he will understand your concerns. If you don’t re-establish the boundaries, you can’t really get mad at him if he walks all over you. It can also build up until you snap

Presumably it's clear that this thread went full circle. Or I guess really just 180. From you asking for advice on how to get him to stop shooting the groundhogs, to you actually helping him repair his gun so that he could continue shooting the groundhogs.
I mean....

Yes indeed! Killing everyone in sight isn't the answer to the two trying to get under his foundation. The whole premise of my post was him going everywhere around the neighborhood and killing all of them. Especially my yard where there is absolutely no threat to his foundation.
