I’ve been there several times, once with the Patriot Guard Riders for the opening dedication ceremony of the half size Vietnam Wall. Another time for my wife’s birthday, yes she asked for that for her birthday that year. You won’t find a more patriotic person anywhere than my wife. The Medal Of Honor room was amazing, I got pretty choked up reading the story of Blackhawk Down. To me it’s more heartbreaking to read the story than watching the movie. The whole museum was amazing, I would love to go back there and see it again. When my wife and I went we were able to find her uncle Jerry’s name on the Vietnam Wall, he was killed by a sniper while he was waiting on the chopper to pick him up to get him outta there because his tour was over and he was supposed to go home that day in ‘69. My wife was staying with her grandmother the night the Soldiers came to notify her that he had been KIA, she said she had never before or since then ever heard someone cry that loud and hard….

I’ve been there, took this pic because I love the UH-1….

The museum is well worth the trip.

There’s an Air Force museum in Florida not too far from Eglin AFB that’s pretty cool but the Infantry museum is bigger and has a lot more things to see and experience. We went there once when we were visiting our son who was stationed at Eglin at the time. He got out in 2012 as a SSGT and went back last year working for the DOD with the equivalent rank of a Captain with three years experience. It pays to know the right people in the right places that’s for sure, now instead of having to run a crew of Airmen on F-16’s he sets up and runs some kind of programs for the F-35’s there now.

I have a tradition with a couple of my old high school friends that we take a one day road trip every summer to see something new. We went to the National Infantry Museum two years ago and had a blast. Not sure if they still have the display of Col. Moore's personal things up, but that was really special. There were plenty of surplus stores in Columbus that we had to stop by, and I wound up finding a rubber duck M16A2 for $80. We were looking for a place to eat on the way out and we happened up on that colossal Burger King. Great day for the books all in all.

The museum is well worth the trip.

They are upgrading that section with new lighting, sound system, and some other special things. It was off limits but should be finished in 2-3 weeks from now. I’ll be back!
