Need 1911 sight parts help . . . . .

Greetings Gents,

A recent trip to the range, and I lost a small screw out of the rear sight for one of my AMT Harballers. Yea, I know not a Wilson, Baer, or GI, but like my children, I love all my 1911's equally (well, almost).

Anyway, the height adjustment screw somehow wiggled loose and got lost. I think these are Millet sights, which are most likely way out of production.

I need to find an old parts guy. Not one that is all over the internet (already checked as many of those as I know of). You know the guy who goes to all the local shows with plastic bins full of uncataloged parts. He probably has a dozen of these. Or maybe one of y'all has an old Millet sight you took off an upgraded long ago. I have already struck out at Brownell's and Numrich.

That's what I need. All assistance will be met with eternal thanks.

Here is a couple photos of the culprit. Anyone know of where I should start?

Take the slide off and go to a good Ace Hardware or other real hardware store. (Big box HD or Blue L wont have them)
They will have a pretty good selection of machine screws in a box and should be able to help you match it up.
Probably well under a dollar.

If the spring is missing they'll probably have one of those too or at least one that will work'

Yup that's what REAL hardware stores are for
also if there is a Grainger or Fastenall nearby they probably have a 5 gallon bucket of them but you'll probably have to buy a hundred for 3-4$

Looks very similar to the Elliason rear sight on numerous Colts, like the Python and their adjustable-sighted 1911's. I bet the screw and spring from a Colt will work.

Do a Google search for "rear sight Colt Python".

It's NOT a Millett, altho' some were used on later-production AMT's--THAT sight is an old Micro--Don't know if they are still in business, I kinda' doubt it, but at least now you know to look for a Micro Rear Sight Elevation Screw...

FWIW, the Adjustable Rear Sight on the Ruger "Mark" .22's is a pretty close copy of the Micro/Accro Rear Sight design, maybe a Rear Sight Elevation Screw from one of them would work--Couldn't hurt to try--Good Luck, and HTH--mikey357

You're VERY CLOSE, Young Padawan--The Rear Sight on his "Hardballer" is a "Micro", which is almost a Carbon Copy of the ACCRO Rear Sight used on most Colt Revolvers with Adjustable Rear Sights that DID NOT get the Elliason unit...

...Probably need the Elevation Screw Detent Ball & Detent Spring, too, or else the Elevation Screw will just fall out AGAIN at some point down the road...

Mikey is on the right track. The new model Ruger Blackhawk flattops use a Micro rear sight but the shape of the front of the tang is different (rounded, not square) so the entire sight probably won't fit your pistol. The screw may work but my Ruger's parts list only shows the complete sight assembly, not the screw alone. I would call Ruger customer service and ask for a screw for a Blackhawk flattop rear sight. The Ruger part number for the complete sight is MVQ25900.

Eternal thanks for your kind assistance so far. As luck would have it, I have a spare sight from a Ruger Blackhawk in my bag of parts. I took out the height adjustment screw and gave it a try. It is VERY close, but the thread pitch is off a bit.

Because this is an AMT Hardballer and not worth a heck of a lot, I wanted to keep the replacement cost to a minimum. Buying an entire rear sight as an experiment isn't in the budget. I like the link to KenSite and will do some additional research as time permits.
