You've got 7 years in the army, and a political science degree? Although "conflict mediation"? Did you actually look up how many jobs there were for that? Also, what was your focus for political science? Legal Studies, public administration...?

You need to look into a job at a law firm as a paralegal, or into police/private sector security.

What have you been looking for that you haven't been able to find anything? What have you been applying for?

Also, remember that temp agencies can be a big help.

Mediation is complicated, easy explanation is the judge has to like you, and is over regulated buy the state.
PI work is hell and in the toilet. Opening my own firm meaning I have to go work for another firm of 2yrs (more state over regulation) and if the other firm found out that was my goal, they send you packing. PI world is very unfriendly competition.
Guess I need to network like hell.

A lot of Magistrate Courts use mediators on a regular basis. Not sure which services they use. I will check around in my circuit.

Did not realize that about PI work. I know a guy who has his own PI firm. I will speak with him next week if I can pin him down.

Go to church regular. Join Kiwanis. Volunteer to work in the field you are interested in - my wife works in a field where the vast majority of people who do it full time started out as volunteers.

Read an article in the Daily Tribune in Cartersville that either Cartersville Police or Bartow County Sheriff's office had a problem filling positions. Stated had 20 applicants. All past written testing, 19 passed physical test and 18 failed background check. Check them out.
