Need help with gas log fireplace

Hey folks,
I bought a condo in the Vinings area with original gas fireplace(2001). The pilot flame works, but I flip the wall switch and the main burner doesn’t work. I think it may be an electronic issue. Maybe the valve doesn’t work.

That’s certainly not my area of knowledge. I called a fireplace repair store and they said they would have to tear apart and rebuild the thing. $10,000+ without even looking at it!! That’s not worth it for me to just look at flames a few months out of the year.

Any one out there in the business that can look at it? I’ll be glad to pay a service fee.

Thanks,
Kayaker

Dusting off the thermocouple? The OP has already said the pilot light is on. With it on it would naturally burn off any dust.

The pilot lights keeps the thermocouple hot. In an electrical sense.
Am I hot/cold yes/no on/off, one/zero

If the pilot is off. The working thermocouple will not allow the gas to flow to the burner. I’m cold. No. Off, or zero.

With the pilot light is relit or in this case verified to be supplying hot, yes, on, or one. It supplies the continuity to allow flow to the burner.

Start by replacing the thermocouple.

Thanks for the info. I watched the videos.

I checked the switch and jumped the wires at the unit…nothing.
I cooled it off and vacuumed around the thermocouple.
The pilot flame is nice and blue. The flame covers over half of the thermocouple. My tester is at another location to check it.

I’ll try and get another thermocouple.

Thanks for the info. At worst, I’ll put everything back together and enjoy looking at the 20 yr old paper weight logs.

I bought an electric switch gas fireplace on amazon for around $350. installed it myself. pretty easy and I press the remote and it flames up
