Some great comments posted already. I would dust-off the thermocouple and see if it works. Or just go ahead and changed it (at Supply House online it is not expensive)An hvac buy can do it.OttoMan -any suggestions?
Hey folks,
I bought a condo in the Vinings area with original gas fireplace(2001). The pilot flame works, but I flip the wall switch and the main burner doesn’t work. I think it may be an electronic issue. Maybe the valve doesn’t work.
That’s certainly not my area of knowledge. I called a fireplace repair store and they said they would have to tear apart and rebuild the thing. $10,000+ without even looking at it!! That’s not worth it for me to just look at flames a few months out of the year.
Any one out there in the business that can look at it? I’ll be glad to pay a service fee.
Thanks,
Kayaker
I ordered thermopile and thermocouple from supply house. Some great comments posted already. I would dust-off the thermocouple and see if it works. Or just go ahead and changed it (at Supply House online it is not expensive)
This has worked for mine several times. If the pilot light isn't burning hot enough to heat up the thermocouple, it won't allow the gas to switch on. Blow the pilot with compressed air to get the dust out.
