I have never even seen a tap of that size with such a fine thread. I mean the handbook calls a 1/2-28 NEF. 17/32-40 would have to be Specialty thread.

I talked to you today. Here is where I would source that tap from. This is if you mic the outside of the male thread, you'll need like a 9/16x40 if you measured the inside of the female threads.
