Welcome, Rupe! I'm jealous! I have retirement coming up sooner rather than later and unplugging in a place like you describe sounds to good to be true. I would trade our gnats in South GA for whatever roams the high desert in a heartbeat!

Cell phone. Makes it a bit of a pain but it's better then nothing. Playing on the internet is our biggest forms of entertainment during the winter. Probably go nuts without it. :-)

We got nats but the worst is the 2 or 3 weeks of No See'ums. Them little suckers.can bite and if you scratchit gets worse and then it can take a month to go away.
This is the way to spend your retirement. Living out here is so awesome. but it is challenging at times.
You use alot of gas too! That's the biggest expense along with food. We have tried raising our own meat but it costs more to feed the meat then it is to just go buy it. So there are down falls, but I wouldn't move in to a town for anything.
