Rifles aren't all that critical for most hunting. It literally doesn't matter for the most part. The scope and mount are much more critical, but you didn't ask about that. You won't go wrong at all with getting the Ruger Hawkeye.

Oh yes I am! I have already scooped out my plot of land. It has deer sign everywhere. It's on the property of the 4 brothers I grew up with here. I have hunted that land since I was knee high to a snake. LOL

I love the stock... I get that it lacks "warmth" or something... but it looks great.

I built a Howa 1500 Barreled action I a Boyd's stock but I ordered the #6 contour barrel in 6.5 PRC but it weighs a freaking ton. It's well over 12 lbs. with optic. I want a lighter rifle for hunting and I want to spend my 1300 dollars on something with substance.

Now you’re looking at a 9.7 pound rifle as it comes. You’re going to be over 12 pounds easily, which is what you were trying to avoid.
