Nice read for hardcore 270 fans (like myself)

Very interesting. Being a .270 nut I can only be intrigued by a rifle shooting my favorite caliber, never being a long range favorite, at 1200 yards with consistency and accuracy in competition. And a 28" barrel? Never seen that on a .270. Good article.

Ammo seems to be way more expensive for .270 compared to the 308

Really? You may be right but most of the stuff I see is about the same. 20 years ago .308 surplus could be had for next to nothing but those days are long gone. Where do find .308 so cheap? .270 is one of the cheaper calibers...

At a long range shoot I hosted earlier this year at Legion OTG in Blakely GA there was a guy on the line with a custom bolt action .270, shooting handloads topped with a Hornady AMAX, and a long tube. I know he was very successful past 1000yds, but I don't know how far out he went.

I'm wanting to do what this guy did one day just because I think someone should do this with a 270. So much potential overlooked because of other calibers. High BC Matrix bullets + the 270 speed could be a real hum dinger. Honestly it should out shoot a 308. BC is much higher in compareable weight classes and the speed is far superior. Of course people will make the length of action argument but look at 338's and all the hard hitters that use 3.600 actions or bigger.

That's my dad's caliber of choice for hunting the power lines. He has a pre-64 bolt action Winchester 270. 150 grain ballistic tips has killed many deer and hogs over the years. Great article. Thanks for sharing!
