Back when Clarence Franklin was alive and his shop was still on Hawthorne, I'd go out there just to drool on those Mark V rifles. Not sure who the Premier stock maker is today. :cool:
 
I did have a beautiful factory stock on my Remington mountain rifle. I got it the first year they came out with the 280 Remington. I replaced it with a factory Remington composite because it was getting beat up from use.

I remember Mr Clarence well...and I had a few of those Mark V's. I know it's a preference thing but the stocks on those were a little gaudy for me. I'm more thinking along the lines of a classic stock with lots of burl...I bought my son a Winchester high grade recently that had really nice wood.
The early (1980's) Dakotas that I have seen are hard to beat also.
