No appreciation of History

I remember when I was in the AF basic training and on our first leave we all went to town. I walked all through the Alamo and was also disappointed in the size, nothing like in the movies! :-)

On my first "Mecca" to the Alamo as a 4 or 5 year old I remember looking at those two foot high walls and remarking to my father, "No wonder they lost!"

Nothing like John Wayne's version.

For the record: Texas is a very cool state.
Great people. Great food. Great pride. Great history.

Their schools do a great job of teaching Texans their heritage.

For example, every Texan can name the five historic battles of Texas. I bet GodBlesstheUSA can name them.
I'm a southern good ole boy from Georgia, but I'd be just as proud if I were from Texas.

I'll never forget the first time I stood at the Alamo and saw this plaque. The staues there gave me the same feeling. Probably one of the most proud times in my life to call myself a Tennessean. At that moment I knew what it meant to be known as a Tennessee Volunteer. So sad about the girls at your work. Tell em Ole Rocky Top said history is very important, " if you don't know where you've been, you'll never know where you're going"

God Bless Tennessee!

The war of Texas Independence is where we get the term "Tennessee Volunteers"!

If nothing else, my ODT brothers and sisters, let us remember that when Texas called, volunteers came from everywhere. When the next call for Liberty arises, let us all answer as faithfully.

IIRC: Gonzales (the "Come and Take Them" Flag), Conception, The Alamo, Goliad, and San Jacinto.

Gonzales was seen as a "minor scrape" but, as at Lexington and Concord, it marked the first time armed Texians stood up to the Mexican army. Conception was another mission in San Antonio, where the Texians easily won a small battle.

I grew up in southern Alabama as well as Texas, so also I remember Horseshoe Bend and the Creek wars. I'm learning more Georgia history now.

Wife`s relative from New Jersey visited us last summer. The subject of the Civil War came up. I learned that the version taught in New Jersey in the 50s was totally different from the version I was taught in the south. Too many discrepancies to put on here. I read Jefferson Davis` autobiography. I go by it. After all, he was there.

I've been to Gonzales too. I was expecting a big cannon and surprised to see how small it actually is. Great part of Texas history. " Come and Take it"

TEXAS, property owners have "LODIAL TITLE TO THEIR PROPERTY" GEORGIANS only have "DEED to Title".

Texans, are great people, great food, and have a direct express lane to your DEATH SENTENCE" no 20-40
years to carry out a death sentence...
