Nope, just nope...........

Falling is perfectly safe — harmless even — Its the sudden deceleration at the destination that hurts — briefly

They've been doing that for 40 years WITHOUT the safety harnesses and the braided steel cable. In the old days (until a few years ago) you just walked with one or both hands on the set of chains, and your feet on the boards. If your feet slipped or you stumbled, you'd better hope your grip holds.

Now, a serious question: Is this really any more dangerous than rock climbing or rappelling on 100-foot cliffs? Are you any more likely to survive a 100 foot fall onto hard ground than a 1,500 fall? I go rappelling often, and trust my life to the "weakest link" in my chain of equipment. That weakest link used to be my 25 year old rope, but now I've got a new one. It's probably time for a new 10-foot strap of tubular webbing, which is what I make my Swiss saddle out of.
