I have some in my grass but my grass is so thick and healthy that the nut grass can't root. I can grab the very top with two fingers and pull it out.

Get you some turkeys and they’ll take care of it. They love to stratch up Chufas which is a nut grass and you’ll have Thanksgiving dinner to boot.

If I recall it’s a winter germinating crabgrass. For those you gotta put down crabgrass preventer in November and catch it before it germinates, or you are chasing it until next season.
