Off to Cobb Civic Center

My son is grown and gone now but he played ten years of football growing up. I never worried about him much, since I played too and didn't feel the risk was too great. With that said, I'd have been scared ****less watching him do something like that. Stereotypes aside, gymnasts are FORMIDABLE athletes. Congratulations to you and your son.

Nice job dad and son! Looks like he's tearing it up out there, hope you both had a good time and got some good competition out of it! Incredible athleticism.

Today he is learning how to lose. There are 8 young men on his team and all of them qualified for regionals except him. He is devastated. He is pulling himself together to go back and compete with his teammates in tonight's team competition. I HATE it but this is as valuable, if not more valuable a lesson, as a win. One of my favorite authors when ask "If you could teach a child one thing what would it be?" Responds with "To fail, I would teach them to fail because they will."

Crippen - that's awesome. Good for you and good for your son. Sorry he did not qualify for Regionals, but you got a great perspective. With your perspective and help, this loss will make him a stronger and better person. Great job Dad!

And to the tool who made rude comments about your son and male gymnasts in general. I see your new here, so maybe you don't know how this works....you should apologize and learn a lesson from the other guys who already corrected you. I don't spend any time on any social media, except ODT (is this social media anyway?). ODT is a good place, where cool things happen. Apologize and clean it up in the future or don't come back here.

My daughter made it to lever 9 before she was stricken with RA in her spine. This is the toughest sport period, bar none. Only an idiot would talk crap about a gymnast, these kids, male and female have a higher pain tolerance than any other athlete, are more disciplined and much stronger.......like true strength not just "I can lift heavy things" strong, but full body ruin your day strong. What struck me the most in these kids is how well they keep their center, controlling their emotions and keep going.

Talk to a sports therapist that deals with athletes from many different sports and the'll tell you the same thing. I've known some unbelievably tough men in my life but none could hump any distance with a broken foot without help, I watched my daughter take 1st in regional on the beam and floor with two bones broken and one bone fractured. It was only after the meet that she said anything about how bad it hurt, so off the the ER we went.

This young man is bada$$.
