I’ve been bitten once again with a new passion of collecting. WATCHES!
The poor wife has watched me go from a coin collector, vintage GI Joe collector, Lesney Matchbox car collector, back to coins, then guitars and always guns. The daughter gifted me a real nice Seiko automatic Pepsi and the wife bought me a Luminox Navy seal dive watch 25 years ago and that was my “collection”. On a recent visit to my daughters we stayed at her friend’s condo and I noticed he had a box that kept the automatic watches moving so they stayed running. I thought it was neat. The friends collection was nice. Several Audemars Pigeots. Skip forward to my birthday the kids bought me a watch cabinet for my lone Seiko automatic. Well just like buying a new gunsafe, one must now fill it. Don’t want the poor watch be lonely.
So watch guys, What are a few watches you would recommend for a budding collector?

I traded one of members here for a Tag Formula one and have an Aquaracer at a friend’s pawnshop waiting to clear background. I was thinking a classic Hamilton maybe in the future.

Really need more info on your taste...You looking for dress watches, divers?? Autos only? Price point? The possibilities are endless. I like large divers. Also research your auto winders. I believe keeping my Breitling on one for years accelerated the need for servicing. It was losing about 20 seconds a day. Service was $1200 including a new case due to a large scratch.

Orient is great across the board. Watch channel guys claim it's the new Seiko (since Seiko isn't the great value it used to be). But I still dig Seiko especially the Samurai and the Alpinist.
Tissot...lots of real Swiss value for the money. The Seastar and the PRX are my faves.
Folks already mentioned the GShock so let me add another Casio to that list. The Duro diver. It's a legit 200 meter quartz diver with threaded crown for around $50.00.
Vostok...if you want some Russian variety in your collection with a real in house automatic movement then Vostok checks that box. They're very popular on YouTube especially for modding. But they're also a love hate thing kinda like Hi Point pistols.
Any Citizen with the Eco Drive (solar) movement. It's a set it and forget kinda watch.
Aside from that I dig the vintage 70s looking models found mostly on eBay. Oh yeah Timex has a cool retro reissue kinda thing called the Falcon Eye. In fact they have lots of cool new models. Just don't get carried away and spend $300.00 or more on a Timex.

What ever you do...don't mention Rolex....you will be evacuated from the thread!!
I wont tell you about my Rose gold Yacht Master.

Always wanted a Sub or Explorer 2 but these days even if I had the money my conscience wouldn't let me spend it that way. I'm not a watch investor. I'm just collector.
