Old age whine and looking for help

I realize I am late to this "party", but if you have not yet made a decision, I would suggest staying with a semi auto. They lie very flat and conceal much easier than most any revolver. I, too, will be 64 in a few months. Each brand of semi auto is a little different. If you can't rack the slide on a Colt, try a S&W, etc. I have a Kimber Solo. It racks fairly easily, but so far, I am not having issues like you describe. The previous posters who mentioned the Sig 938 and 238 have offered solid suggestions. Go to a gun shop during a slow week day and try a variety of handguns until you find one you like. You may also find out which gun shop you like better.

Another option which no one has mentioned is the 22 mag. Yes, I do realize it is not a "manly" caliber. I also realize it has almost no recoil, yet it is very effective. If you are having strength issues, how is recoil going to effect your ability to shoot twice in the future? S&W makes a dandy little J frame (M351) that is 9 shot and only weighs 10 1/2 or 11 ounces. Ruger has the LCR, but it is a 6 shot and weighs 13.5 ounces. Still very light, and it is noticeably less expensive than the S&W, and somewhat easy to find.
Not that 22 Mag has become popular in small revolvers, but Hornady, CCI and Winchester make ammo designed for 2" barrels. All others are designed for rifle barrels and have MUCH greater muzzle flash and typically, lower velocity. North American Arms makes a very high quality SS single action 22 mag revolver that anyone can carry. They are unbeatable for a 2nd gun.

One key to concealing a firearm is having the right holster and most important, a good belt. I have a Kydex belt slide holster for my Solo. I don't like Kydex, but the gun disappears under a light shirt, due to the design of the holster. I also have a 511 brand belt that is very stiff and keeps the holster from sagging.

If you decide to go with one of the light weight S&Ws, remember the more powerful the ammo, the more violent the recoil. They are very nice for toting around, but when you need to shoot them, +P ammo is a bear. Only you can know which is right for you.

Do let us know what you decide on.
