Seems to me a large part of our firearm culture should be showing our children by example how responsible adults live in and handle situations in our culture where firearms are concerned. Teach them right from the get go kind of thing. I was hunting with my dad by the age of 3 with heavy one on one supervision.

That being said, the other side of the coin is the parental responsibility to make sure that their children are capable of handling the responsibility of an family friendly yet mostly adult event. If that responsibility is not met than there should be no butthurt when asked to rectify the situation in a way that best handles the inappropriate behavior. 1 on 1 one or 1 on 2 at most direct supervision would be responsible. 1 adult showing up with 6 kids post McDonalds with icecream and caffeine in their belly not so much.

I'm sure there is a reason for the age suggestion. Maybe liability concerns? Maybe portions of speaking or people may be considered too adult for younger children? I do think we should all take every opportunity to properly introduce and instruct our next generation of youth brought up in our firearm culture however.

My opinion would be to lower the age limit and ask that each individual planning on attending with children be asked to appropriately supervise those youth in a responsible manner with the caveat that it is understood that best behavior will be expected. If less than best behavior is observed there shall be no butthurt if it is suggested that maybe the event is not appropriate for the children in question this year and that perhaps next year would be better for them. Even better would be those responsible for any children not ready for the event take on the responsibility of making that decision without having to be asked. I think we have a responsible crowd very capable of living up to that expectation and would be surprised if we did not.

Just my 2 cents. I have no kids and my only dog in the hunt is joy in seeing the next generation of firearm enthusiasts learning properly from great people.

I am thinking NO KIDS in strollers blocking the aisles.
 
I've updated the first post to say :

Children 12-18 free. The policy for children under 12 is being reviewed for a lower age. Please post if you have an opinion on what age, if any, is an appropriate cutoff.

My opinion:
I'm not planning on bringing my then 7 year old just because I think he'll be bored to tears, it's just not really a kid event. Tables and tables of cool guns and knives that he can't touch, sounds like kid hell. :D But I'm also planning on being there for 12 hours, if you're just coming by for 2 hours then it may be less boring.

Nothing has been decided for sure yet, that was just my first draft.

I don't think there should be any age restrictions. RK, Eastman do not have age restrictions and dogs are allowed.
