Olympic Fencing...Seriously WTF!?!?

This what the olympics does to people.

I trained with a guy who spent years fencing and the result was very excellent footwork. He won the golden gloves state championship in boxing a couple times. He was very elusive, and he gave all the credit to his years spent fencing. I agree it is dorky and he was a weird dude, but he could definitely box.

I guess it just seems to me that there should be some risk of injury, agony of defeat, or humiliation for something to be a real sport. Maybe if they had to do it with no more clothing than an MMA fighter, it would be more interesting. Again, if they got slightly electrocuted when that foil touches their suits, it would be entertaining too.

They are basically wearing a sweat suit, not armor. The mesh vest is for scoring, not protection.

If you remember getting whooped with a switch, imagine making it out of metal. When I did it, I had raised welts on my hands, wrists, and forearms. It doesn't often draw blood, but it can hurt.

Sabre is more exciting as a spectator sport, but o don't think it's an Olympic event.

I think this is what I'm really hoping for... including all the trash talk.

USA just won Silver in the Men's foil.

I watched it in spite of bitching about it. Good match I guess, but honest to god, almost every time I thought our guy was going to be awarded the point, he didn't. I still think being lightly electrocuted would make it easier to follow.
