The Miami Dade school district has its own independent police department and a chief of police appointed by the school board. So when the school superintendent ordered his chief to reduce the amount of criminal enforcement involving black males, chief Hurley came up with a brilliant idea... Just don't report the crimes.
As a result, when Trayvon Martin was found to be in possession of several items of jewelry that matched the description of items taken in a burglary that occurred near the school, it was written up as a "found property" report and never reported as a crime.
It was this cover up that probably protected Trayvon from having ever been charged with a burglary/larceny/receiving stolen goods offense. Since then, six MDSPD officers have given sworn statements regarding the manipulation and cover up of crime statistics, specifically regarding black male students. But I'm sure Trayvon was just headed straight back home with his skittles that night. And George Zimmerman is a racist for even thinking it could be anything else.

Disparity in size, strength, and physical dexterity are common factors in determining if use of force was justified. I'm sorry but short, chubby Zimmerman was a very unlikely match for this "kid", especially if he got caught offguard with a punch to the face and a broken nose. I also find it HIGHLY unlikely that Zimmerman could have caught Martin on foot unless Martin wanted him to.
