Let’s face it, we have all been sucked into the hype surrounding a product, only to be disappointed about performance in the field. Nonetheless, failures in performance, function, and durability can become a big issue fast in our pursuit, and they are good to know about. Especially in an environment full of paid promotion.
What overhyped gear has disappointed you or failed you? What was the shortcoming or failure? How could the product be improved upon? Have you found a better option?
This isn’t meant to be a negative thread, but rather a place to bring to light the flaws in over-hyped products, in hopes of making them better or glorifying superior options. I realize that a lot of this stuff is personal preference, so let’s try not to spend time bickering back and forth on who is right or wrong, offer constructive advice on a fix or alternative option, or move along.

Glock Gen 5. I know you can modify the halfmoon mag removal cutout but the texture and that cut out just didn't work for me. Finger fell right in the half moon opening. Not a fan.

They quickly dumped the half moon. I had a 17 with it and looked for a 19 with it for some time before just giving up on the 19 altogether. If you didn't like the half-moon, the Gen 5 no longer has it. It is almost impossible to find the few that do have it.

The only non Gen 5 Glock I have now is a Gen 4 21 that actually belongs to my dad. I "borrowed" it last year to convert to 10mm and haven't given it back yet...

I plan on buying a Gen 5 21 when they become available.

I no longer have any use or desire for Gen 3 or 4 Glocks.

I like my Gen 5 34 a lot better than I did the early release 19. I was happy to see Glock fixed the issue.

Yeah, they did it quick. Unfortunately I absolutely hate the bump on the bottom of the Gen 5 Glock 19 grip. It makes my hand feel cramped which is why I spent so long looking for one with the half moon cuttout.

The only reason I wanted a 19 was I was sitting on a TON of 19 mags. Eventually I just picked up a 19X and sold/traded off all my Glock 19 mags for 17 mags. The 19X still fits in all of my holsters so it wasn't as hard of a transition as I thought it would be.

Funny thing is though, I haven't carried my 19X hardly ever. My 19 and later my 19X have been replaced by the slimline 43X/48s since they came out.

43X in the pants
19X on the night stand

So do you use the shield mags in your 43x?

Sometimes. I have one setup for shield mags and one still factory stock. I trust the shield mags for carry now. I would convert the other one and go strickly to shield mags, but PSA is coming out with a dagger micro that will have polymer 15rd mags. If those mags work well I will move from shield to dagger micro mags.

I dumped them all (except a G42) and went P320 and P365. Just not my thang.

The remind me of the fender on a 1972 Honda Dream 300. Fender looked like a cereal box. JMHO
