I’m wanting to by a small day pack for my wife. Will a regular pack not specifically made for a woman adjust to fit? Particularly the chest area? My pack isn’t anywhere close to her size so it would be hard to tell. What’s everyone else’s experience with this?

The Osprey pack finder tool could help you out. Alternately, you could go into REI and let her try out different options. I'd definitely get something lady-specific if it's bigger than a book bag.

If there's going to be a medium to heavy amount of weight in this pack (such as a couple of quarts of water)
you may want to consider whether it has an across the chest strap to hold the two shoulder straps at the correct spacing,
and where will that connecting strap go on a woman's body .
This can be more of a delicate issue for them than for a man.
