So recently got this Smith & Wesson double action 45, has British proof marks and I think it was a Royal Canadian Mountie pistol.
When I bought it and looked it over, I was fairly assure that it was a 45 ACP, but When I loaded it, the 45 ACP fell into the cylinder about an eighth of an inch. So then I figured it was probably a 45 Long Colt, wrong again it won’t fit but about 1/2 the bullet,

Question is, does this gun require moon clips in order for the 45 ACP to work because the extractor obviously with the 45acp
into the cylinder casing and all it won’t extract.

What in the world do I have here?

It's more than likely .45 acp, moon clips. That's what the 1917 was built to use, for the military. Also, looks like it has checkered stocks, so, probably commercial guns bought by the Canadians. Even nicer to have, IMO.

So do you believe that 45acp with moon clips would work?
