Anyone else headed to Piedmont NWR at the end of the month for their first hunt?
Piedmont's NWR will be having its 1st primitive hunt at the end of the month that i will be headed down for. This will be the first time that I go to any kind of bonus/quota hunt like this.
Im not looking to chase a huge trophy there, just trying to get some more meat in the freezers, but i will gladly take a nice buck if the opportunity presents itself!
Id love to talk to some guys who have had some experience going there, and to pick their brain a little bit about the area, if possible.

This will also be the first time that I am hunting that far south in the state of georgia, and am wondering if it would be a good idea to invest in a pair of snake boots, or snake gaiters.

I hope everyone is having an awesome, safe season!

been a long time but killed my 1st deer there using a CVA .45 Kentucky. Hunted compartment 6. Im sure there have been numerous changes since I have been there.
I would invest in some sort of lower leg protection.

Snake boots/gaiters would be wise. and treat all of you clothing and gear with permethrin due to seed ticks and chiggers being so bad down there.

That hunt will be during the pre-rut most likely.
Our group hunted the first hunt every time that we went. Hunt food, trails and normal travel patterns the first day. Also, hunting the thick stuff where they are hiding to avoid all of the pressure isn’t a bad idea. It’s a great place with lots of deer.
