Pistol Toter's License

Newton county, Georgia is correct.

Does anyone know if you had to have different toter's licenses for different pistols?

I've heard from ole timers you could only get a carry license and only one specific gun could be carried and had to be on the license. Some of our older members might know more about the laws.

I'm 56 and in the early 70's, I remember hearing my father and grandfather talking about the proposed change to go from licensing the GUN to be carried to licensing the PERSON. By the time I came of age to get a permit in 1982, the license was for the person. I don't know exactly when the law changed though.

Yes, and the grownups of the day talked about how that system amounted to gun registration, since the s/n of the gun had to be on the license.

My New York State pistol permit had each individual gun listed, by make and serial number (no room for the model).
Some guys with big handgun collections had to have additional cards issued by the Court to give enough paper for recording all the guns they owned.
Just the other day I found an unused "purchase coupon" for my NYS gun permit... you had to give it to the seller when you bought a handgun , and that seller had to bring it to the Court to get the gun taken off his or her license or otherwise make the paperwork reconcile.

I'm glad to leave all that crap behind.

Although, this morning it's 24 degrees and my deck is covered in ice. I feel like I'm still in New York at the moment.

My Grandfathers. lost him in 1968 but I was old enough to learn the love and respect of proper firearms use.

After thinking a bit I believe this is the pistol he used on his evening rattle snake snake hunts at the old monument on Burnt Mountain above Jasper, Ga. They were all head shot and he would bring back to town for everyone to see and awe over.
It don't know which family member got this gun when he past but I managed to get his single barrel Iver Johnson 20GA. My dad gave it to me when I turned 12. That was 47 years ago and I still and will care for until I'm gone. Hopefully one of my sons will appreciate its sentimental value as I have.
