30-06 with a bunch of 220 grain ammo and 12 gauge with slugs and #6 birdshot. Survival in Alaska is a lot different than an urban situation. Your neighbors(large predators) up there will kill you and eat you, here they just rob, rape or kill you. The biggest threat is from the bears, they are curious and always hungry. They will stalk into your camp at night because they can smell potential food. A 12 gauge loaded with slugs works well up close and personal and the birdshot can help with gathering birds and rabbits to eat. The 30-06 is good for many things which requires you to keep predators at a distance or take a Moose or Caribou for meat.
My 300 rum for large predators and all purpose 12 gauge maybe my Rem 1100.

That would probably be my first choice, or maybe a Remington 870 with slug barrel and the G21..... Nah, I am thinking the AK would mess up a bear's day pretty good after all.
