Long story short I'm about to lose my family hunting lease. If I'm unable to find a new one I will be hunting public. I have no idea how the rules work and the regulation book sounds like Greek to me. Joe Kurtz is the closest to me. I know very little and any help to understand the do and don't and hows. I would be happy to meet and talk hunting, I live in Concord or just phone communication. Any info is appreciated.

The annual PDF of the DNR rules handbook can be a a little hard to understand at first sight in regards to public land. Read the general rules for public land first, these rules will apply to all public lands regardless of the individual WMA/National forest/whatever.

Then scroll down and take a look at the rules for the individual WMA. You'll see a brief description of the place, directions on how to get there, and a couple of other points. Any specific regulations will be listed here, i.e. if there is a specific season or harvest limit, it will be listed here. If no notes are left on specific game/seasons, then the standard broad WMA rules apply.

In short, the big section that lists all WMA rules applies to all. Specific instructions for each WMA will be listed under its own section. Hope this helps.

Here are your specifics for Joe Kurz for 25-26.

I got tired of having to get up so early to beat someone where I wanted to hunt. Buy yourself a small piece of property and do your own thing. It's a great investment and one you can take pride in
