Plinking .22LR - GSG-5 vs. M&P15-22

For whatever weight it carries, I will be picking up a brand spankin' new M&P 15-22 tomorrow. My recommendation for 10/22 as #1 choice still stands, though. :)

I think the people have spoken. I will think about a 10/22. Watch a number of youtube reviews. they are very helpful. particularly nutnfancy. i handled one at the shop and found it to be light/easy to handle and very well made. apparently there are TONS of aftermarket stuff. BUT M&P 15-22 is ohhhh so nice too.... sigh

just a quick follow up. I finally decided on the SIG 522, instead of an AR style 22. Let me tell u what a beauty it is and its not like everyone has one. I have already ordered a bipod, 3-9x scope, and a MAGPUL angled fore grip. I am afraid that aSIG 556might not be too far away.

thanks again for all ur input!

I WON!!! ;) no, YOU WON!!! WE BOTH WIN!:cool-new:

I have owned both (15-22 and GSG5) and the 15-22 wins hands down.

My GSG had issues feeding some 22LR ammo. My 15-22 would eat anything and mag dumps were no issue (and fun).

The 15-22 also had a threaded barrel in case you wanted to add a suppressor while the GSG was harder to thread.

The M&P makes a great trainer to build muscle memory that will translate over to it's larger cousin (M-4 or Ar-15).
While not everything can be done w/ it that can be done w/ the larger gun, most of the operational controls, specifically the trigger & sights/ optics can be set up the same.

Makes for some inexpensive training... & in a pinch, could be pressed into service for use in self-defense.
Would it be my preferred self-defense gun/ caliber?
No... but I sure wouldn't want to come down a hallway through 20-25 CCI Velocitor rounds aimed at my face either.

As far as plinking goes, I would say the 10/22 might have a little edge but not by much.
