In 21years, this is the first stray kitten to show up at our door. My wife saw it on the deck with our other cats 3 weeks ago. It took 3 days to catch it. Dirty, angry and hissing ferrel beast. After 3 weeks he is realizing we aren't going to eat him. Still extra paranoid, but getting more friendly.

Last several cats that I have “owned “ were those that paid us a visit, approved the cat food and company, and chose to stay

We got one that showed up and made himself part of the family. He’s my daughters protector, never lets her out of his sight.
