Plenty of good advice so I won't repeat.
Personally, I bring a short range gun which often times is a 22 of some configuration.
I have smoked many with a 6" Charger.. Mid range I like my 17HMR or sometimes a 22 mag.. Last trip all I had was the 17 and it worked from zero - 200..
I don't own a 224 Valkyrie but they certainly do get good marks for longer shots. I plan on trying a Grendel next trip but to date a 223 has performed fine for 200+.
All of my experience has been private land / dirt roads in southern Colorado.
Have fun and hope to see a report after the "hunt'.
We went to Wyoming to hunt P dogs a couple years ago. So much fun!
I brought a couple bolt guns but mainly shot the AR’s.
A buddy brought a 17hmr and wet shot the close ones out the car window with that
Great tips from everybody ! Keep'em coming.
We'll definitely post a report after the hunt in June.
I think the 224 valkyrie will perform well. In my research, this caliber is supposed to work well with wind.
Don't know if they're talking about Kansas wind though !
