just got the blinking red light and cant turn it on.

i'm doing the hair dryer trick, but does anyone know of a place that does ps3 repair near atlanta?

You know back in the day I worked for funcoland, and we did in home repair.But today these companies don't allow such.
Sad as I made a killing at that time from ps1 and dream cast repairs and modchips.

i hardly play mine, but it has gotten hot a few times.

did they ever get the heat issues fixed?

I will say though, this thing is old. I got this back in highschool, so we're looking at 7-8 years old minimum.

I doubt it. Xbox has the same issue, but the fix is temporary. Call Sony and see what they say because Microsoft extended warranty's for free.

apparently the slim does run cooler.

The tests from PCM Gears further show and was 8-9 degrees Celsius cooler than the original PS3 unit during Blu-ray playback. The DVD playback was 2 degrees Celsius cooler. So far, despite the PS3 Slim having a much slimmer profile (no kidding, right?) and capability to trap more heat, the new design allows for significant changes in temperature. A further study on game performance would help, especially one that accesses the RSX and Cell more heavily.

once the ps3 cools from the hair dryer fix, I'll see if it works.

Runs way cooler. It's about half the wattage/power of the original.
