PSA: chicken sales

We got 18 hens but winter time isn’t that great on eggs laying. Still getting 4-6 a day.
If you need someone to take a few chicks off your hands I’ll drive to you. I could use 5-10 more.
I got lucky then. I sold 25 Birds last Saturday and got good money for them. My hens are still laying some but the cold grey days have them slowed down some. I got 21 chicks in the brooder too.

I work for a poultry company. Please keep all these people in your thoughts and prayers. The infected farm was in the edge of Elbert co. If this **** cannot be contained it will potentially cripple GAs biggest industry. Since you seem to "know" about poultry operations and conditions tell me about it. What do you call the "overuse" of antibiotics?? A company is in business to make money, therefore they would in most cases treat sickly birds with an antibiotic. Just as you would go to the doctor when you're sick and get medicine. Whats shady about some in the industry, are the ones that market "organic" **** and you're paying 5x the price. "Yard chickens" and game birds are an issue because they're out in the open, exposed. So when wild birds or waterfowl transmit a disease to them, that's where cases start to happen.

Can't see how that's the problem: How would yard chickens spread the disease to commercial chickens?

People that have infected yard chickens near someone's farm. Airborne. Also, a break in bio security on some farms where a farm helper had been around backyard birds, ducks, geese ect.

Backyard chickens cut into commercial sales and that is how they are a problem. Except it costs more to raise backyard chickens that the eggs they produce.

It's not as much about "table eggs" around here, as it is broilers. The majority of hen houses around here are broiler breeders, which supply broiler hatching eggs. There are a minority of "table egg" producers around here
