I’ve been slowly working on a quail project for our back yard. The coop came from mostly left overs from a larger project.
These are native Georgia quail from a game farm a few hours away, I started with 13 and ended up with 8 quail. I few were our own faults, a couple never took initially.
We’re growing them for fun, but will harvest batches every now and again for the skillet. My wife and girls are into the project, they have been a fun addition around here.
No eggs yet (7 weeks old) but I hope to see some soon. Once they start laying regularly we will get another batch in the incubator.
I haven’t gotten to hear them call consistently yet, but the males should start soon. It’s a sound my grandpa heard from the fields regularly, my Daddy rarely, and me only once. It’ll be nice to have it back, even in this form.
