Quail coop in the burbs

You can build what is called a Johnny house it’s a quail recall pen . Used to keep quail to train birddogs. Get some 1/2 grown quail keep in pen for 2 or 3 weeks you release a few not all. Leave some in pen late in evening quail will start calling to get together to roost for night . You can look own line type in Johnny house for quail will get plans to build one . The main thing will be a funnel made out wire so quail can re enter the pen but they can’t get out of funnel from inside. You have release a few birds yourself .
This is great, I’m going to check it out. Working to convince my folks to keep a big coop on the farm.

I’ve been slowly working on a quail project for our back yard. The coop came from mostly left overs from a larger project.

These are native Georgia quail from a game farm a few hours away, I started with 13 and ended up with 8 quail. I few were our own faults, a couple never took initially.

We’re growing them for fun, but will harvest batches every now and again for the skillet. My wife and girls are into the project, they have been a fun addition around here.

No eggs yet (7 weeks old) but I hope to see some soon. Once they start laying regularly we will get another batch in the incubator.

I haven’t gotten to hear them call consistently yet, but the males should start soon. It’s a sound my grandpa heard from the fields regularly, my Daddy rarely, and me only once. It’ll be nice to have it back, even in this form.

Seriously considering getting some Bannie chickens. Though I'm pretty sure my HOA will throw a fit.

Are you considering populating your area with "free range" birds...that would be pretty cool....BUT...a lot of predators out there
they look GREAT!!!

No intentional releases on these, just for fun/ food. We are going to let a friends dog flush a batch later in the fall on the farm, but released ones have next to no chance from what I’ve read.
