Question about Rem. 870 barrels

thinking of getting a replacement barreel for my 870. Will all barrels (2.75-3.00 size) fit all of the 870 recievers? I have an older one and don't know if there have been design changes along the way.

I think the only variation is the Special Purpose guns but they may be the same too. Just make sure you don't try to run a 3" shell through a 2 3/4" receiver just because the barrel says up to 3". It will shoot fine if you can get the shell in the chamber but you won't be able to eject the fired shell.
