Question about the difference between New Posts and Today's Post

I'm new to the site and still don't quite understand how to navigate the site to see exactly what I want to see. I am looking for only new posts in reverse chronological order so that I can see what's for sale since the last time I looked. If I use new posts I get things that may be new but also those that have replies to old posts. If I pick Today's Posts, I get posts that say they were created yesterday. Thanks for any guidance I can get and thanks for the great site.

The only button you really need here is What's New. I probably hit it thousands of times a day.
