Rant about contractors that don't show up. Must be millionaires that don't need work!

Like I stated in my first post on this…these type of people are the reason I was commercial only.
If someone goes outta business because they lose their accountant, they weren’t good at what they did to begin with and the accountant wasn’t the reason. Thru the years in business we were called on a few times to straighten out screw ups from companies that were in over their head. Knowledge and experience is power. We never screwed a single client. But, we charged what our knowledge and expertise was worth.

It’s a no win argument with this guy…

This^^^^^

One of the reasons I stopped an estimator and management. I have a lot of freedom being a tech on the floor instead of being tied down to a desk.

Since I did the accounting, I knew more about the finances than the old man did. And, BTW, once my parents divorced and I quit doing the accounting end, the old man lost a profitable business in less than two years.
So they got a divorce and you left with momma. You weren’t a momma’s boy were you? Explains all this pissin and moanin!

Good body and paint techs are pure artists and worth their weight in gold. One of my clients thru the years was and still is a major player in auto sales. Seeing the reconditioning process at their centers was amazing to watch. The true techs were the cream of the crop.

As an estimator I have delt with his kind and it will generally go something like this:

Idiot: XYZ shop says I don't need these parts that you put on the estimate. They can do it for x amount and save my deductible. If you can match their price I'll let your shop repair my car.

Me: I can't do that and do a quality repair. Nobody is giving you something for nothing.

Idiot: What about the parts they said I don't need? Can you not replace them?

Me: No. I showed you the parts that need to be replaced and explained exactly what needed to be done to repair your car.

Idiot: I like their price better.

Me: Then you should take it there.

3 months later the idiot is back at my shop wanting me to take a look at the repairs the other shop did because he isn't happy. The other shop doesn't invest in training, equipment, benefits, quality materials or highly skilled employees. Employee retention rate is low if any. You get what you pay for.
What are you even talking about?

Pay or do it yourself nobody needs your f****** business. Just remember you're the person that can't do it or don't know anyone that can.
When I do know someone, those with an inflated sense of their worth can try to force me to employ the "best." The other guy isn't a USDA approved licensed, bonded, insured, certified, business owner with a $100,000 gas guzzling truck and half a dozen buddies that need a job. When it isn't that, it's some guy that shops at Walmart, eats in fast food dumps and bitches because every little brown guy is an illegal alien.

What the hell are you ranting about.

I generally do a lot of that stuff on my own. Let's talk turkey here:

At 17 I could do most any plumbing job. Between the spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and bulging discs, it's hard to get around. So, a smart ass why don't you do it yourself remark is idiotic. Tools? I have every tool it would take to do any plumbing job in my house. Even if I didn't I could buy the necessary tools each time and still pay someone $200 an hour.

The real issue is, this is a free market economy; the pros want to rip people off and, worse, most of the fancy themselves to be Republicans while demanding a socialist form of protectionism to save them from competition. The trades simply don't take a degree from Harvard UNLESS the individual is holding themselves out to be an engineering professional.

I started plumbing (new construction) at 18 and learned/advanced quickly. Everybody needs a plumber and I was doing side work in no time. Fast forward 10 years and I thought I was a pretty good plumber, I had my Unrestricted Class II Master’s license and I thought I knew stuff. I get to 15 years experience and looked back at 10 years and realized I didn’t know much. Then at 20 years I realized I didn’t know **** at 15 years experience. I felt good enough at 25 years experience to finally enjoy the knowledge acquired. This is my 40th year and I’m still learning. At 17 you couldn’t do hardly any plumbing job.

Good plumbing isn’t cheap and cheap plumbing isn’t good. My good plumbing company has multiple Master plumbers, each over 30 years experience, a great office staff, a well stocked shop, clean well stocked vans. We show up when we say we will, we work efficiently and do quality work. And we warranty it without question. My employees have normal benefits, vacation, holidays, good health insurance and 401K. All of which means I’m not cheap. But I’m not ripping you off. It just costs a lot to provide a quality service.
