Hi All - I am looking to get back into the AK world. Had a WASR that I got rid of years ago, and I still regret it.
So, the RAS47: yes, I've seen the torcher tests on this rifle where they stuck it in a rhinos @$$ for 6days in the desert sun, dropped a nuke on it, and it failed....after 5000rds. GREAT
All mall-ninja notions aside, for us regular civilians that would put this rifle through range "abuse" and recreational shooting, I would love to hear some PERSONAL feedback. Do you like it? Does it feed a wide variety of ammo? Magazine compatability? Etc
I would love to get another WASR, but the entire AK market seems to be dominated currently by the RAS47; its on every website and every shelf.

A friend of mine who is a bona fide AK man had a RAS47 and got rid of it. I cannot recall his specific complaint so I will email him and try to find out exactly what it was he did not like about it.

I have read mixed reviews but have exactly zero experience with the RAS other than holding one at a gun store. It appeared well made and looked very nice...

I have seen more than one very good deal for WASR's here on the ODT in the past week, if you want another one. Or if you must have a brand new one, there are at least 3 local dealers I know of that sell them.

Not to discourage you from the RAS47...Again, I have no first hand experience with them.
 
Consider this, the bolt and carrier are cast, not billet or forged. With the rifle selling for $639 at places like classic firearms, why not buy a PSA AK, they just had blemished models on sale for $650, they also had the basic "kit" on sale for $379 all you do is add the stock (pistol grip, fore end parts and buttstock) of your choice. At least with the new PSA you are getting billet machined 4140 bolts and trunnions.

I knew it had something to do with the metal in the trunion or bolt group. I had a WASR in 2015 and at the time I didn't see what all the hype was about. It was one of the most crudely assembled/finished rifles I've ever owned. One day I took it out of the closet and the trigger axis pin was backed about halfway out the side of the receiver. Now all that being said I will admit when I got mine at $500.00 even it had to be THE perfect beater AK. Think of the WASR as the 69 Beetle of AKs. It's like a rough blank canvas that's wide open to interpretation. And all the after market AK stuff is intended for the AKM pattern as in the WASR.
Now I have looked closely and lovingly at the RAS47 more than once. Mainly because it's just a better looking rifle all around. But I haven't kept up on changes in manufacturing or model/metal upgrades at Century. So I couldn't say if there is one generation of RAS47 that's better than another like there was with WASR rifles. But at the right price I know I would gamble on one. I want another fixed wood stocked AK and the RAS rifles have nice blonde wood furniture like I dig. And considering I've owned an under folder Yugo over a year and put less than a full mag through it I don't think that I would ever reach the shooting point with the RAS that it just gave up on me. I'm not like the YouTube guys that have ammo sponsors.
 
You don't need an ammo sponsor lol, sportsmansguide has 7.62x39 on sale right now with free shipping for $218 per 1000 and if you're in the buyers club, they will let you split the payments up over 4 months with no interest. That's how I buy mine, didn't pay shipping for a single case of ammo last year. I sure don't shoot 5,000 rnds year but my son and I shoot about 2500. If the RAS was the only rifle I had, it would be worthless in 3 years of our use.
 
No first hand experience here either but the rifle does have a checkered history. There are other rifles out there with proven records. For a little more there is a Sar 1 on here for $800 with extra's, great deal. Gander has fixed stock npap's for $535 also( with coupon code).

what has the feedback been like thus far on the PSA Aks?
 
From what I've read it's all been positive. There are a few members here who got the kits and have built them up. It's under the steals and deals section I think. It's under one of the ak deals posts. When they get back instock I'm considering acquiring one.
