Rat Patrol

Ah, the LRDG (Long Range Desert Group) weren't really an SAS-type group. They were in action before the SAS were formed, although later in the war they often assigned men to the SAS.

Most of the LRDG crews weren't actually British, they were New Zealanders and Rhodesians, but their primary role was as observers and not really covert action and sabotage.

After the North Africa campaign, they were transferred to the Greek Islands and the Balkans for further reconnaisance work, but when the european theater was reaching its conclusion, they were disbanded.

Those guys were the stuff of legends when I was growing up.
