From what I understand - and I'll be the first to admit I'm not an expert in real estate - the market in/around the metro area is "tight".

Folks aren't selling because they can't get what they want.

If you found a neighborhood you were interested in but no houses were for sale, this would be a great way to "flush out" anyone who may be thinking about selling.

I can't say I agree with the aggressive "letter can't be ignored" part but it's a good way to see if anyone is thinking about selling...

It is a good way to find a house where none are for sale

THere's always someone on a street thinking of selling but not listed t yet

But it's best done in person
