Recent Purchase 1992 YJ

I have had a 84’ CJ, 89’ YJ and now a 2010 Jk.
Wish I still had my CJ. The first thing I would do
is go thru the whole drive train and the above mentioned
clutch master cylinder. I would do all that before you ever buy
tires or anything. If your not going to be doing rough wheeling
or rock climbing I wouldn’t upgrade axles. There are a lot
Of tire carriers out there but I have the swing our tire carrier
and it’s nice except vibration noise because the tire is a
37 12.50. They make the tire holders that use existing
hinges and that’s what I would go with since ur tires aren’t huge.
When it comes to bumpers you get what you pay for as far as functionality,
strength and coating.

Also, remember if you get any lift it will cost a pretty $
to shore up other things like shocks, steering stabilizer, bushings, brakes, calipers
and several other things. As it was mentioned before.... stay with smaller
wheels and tires unless you just want to go bigger.

This whole journey your about to go on will be fun and frustrating. I have attached a couple pics below. Good luck with it

I’ve got about $7k in my XJ, and I’m still not done with it yet. But who is ever really done, lol. I often consider trying to find a nice well maintained stock Jeep...

I would like to get one to. I’m gonna be in the market for one at the first of the year.
Think I will go with a CJ. You know what JEEP stands for? Just Empty Every Pocket
Lol

I believe 94 and up were external, 93 and below internal.
Yep. Mine was a 94. Went through 2 clutch masters cyls and 3 transmissions during the short time that I owned it. Bought it with 20k miles, all highway, and sold it with 50k miles, most off highway. Must have rolled across the assy line on a Monday...

I’m all for making sure it’s reliable regardless, so I agree with fixing items and giving it a good once over.

Bumpers:
As luck would have it, aftermarket winch bumpers, recovery bumpers with tire carriers and real rock sliders (not nerf bars, they are useless and will get ripped off,) are pretty affordable. I would get a swing away tire carrier rear recovery bumper. The tires you want to get with the wheels are substantially heavier.

Looks like you were spot on in this comment. The rear tire that was on the jeep has caused the "tailgate" to sag already. I'll be replacing the brackets on it and getting the bumper w/ swinging tire carrier.

So first update:

Jeep has been stripped of interior components, going to be doing a bed liner on the inside of it on top of the factory coat to help maintain the inside. Found a set of floorboard plugs and will be replacing those.
Outside of jeep has been stripped and cleaned ready to be painted.

The front drive shaft will be getting replaced soon, along with the steering stabilizer and brake lines. I have a couple other unknown drive drain issues in question now. Attempting to diagnose issues with the air conditioner and see why the fan isn't even kicking on. This will most likely lead to an electrical overhaul since only 1 of 4 speakers work, and the jeep has issues with the parking brake as well.

Still searching for a good wheel/tire set, leaning towards 31" tires on a 16" wheel that's 8"-10" wide.

Leaning towards this front bumper/rear bumper/ wheel well set -

Already up to $800 in purchased misc. parts, and don't feel like much progress has been made..
