Recommend a survival book

Google,
us army survival manual.
it is FM 21-76 and you can download it for free.
Just skip the military E&E stuff for now and start with the basics for your climate.

The Boy Scout, "Wilderness Survival" merit badge book is the best $3.00 you can spend.
Available at your Scout store or on line.

I grew up reading "Bushcraft" too; it is a total classic, but is advanced reading.

Here is a really good basic skills manual, but complete enoughto be an encyclopedia of useful information.

Sure, go ahead and read about it, then get outside and practice!

My absolute favorite book on survival is "When All Hell Breaks Lose" by Cody Lundin. It is geared more towards urban/suburban survival and accounts for all aspects of survival (physical, mental, spiritual) along with all the other traditional survival type information (finding water, constructing non traditional shelters). Because lets be honest, as nice as it sounds to head out into the woods and survival off the land, that probably will not be the case for most of us.

Go in the woods with nothing but a toothpick for a week! You will learn fast enough.......................
