Recommended AR or AK

I'm an AK guy all the way, but I'm not terribly sure I would suggest that for others. This is America and the options for AR owners make me jealous pretty often. Sometimes I wish I could run up to Bass Pro and pick up some cheap mags, new sling mounts, grips, etc.

Also, if you are looking to become a proficient tactical shooter, you'll get there sooner with the AR.

That being said, I have my reasons for my choice. I use AK74 in 5.45. I will get my rounds on target fast. Lots of them.

Both are fine sporting rifles. Handle both. Choose the one that feels better in your hands.
Go with quality over quantity.
1 well made rifle will be more dependable and hold its value better than 2 lower tier rifles. A well made rifle is easier to trade or sell off if you decide to switch platforms. ( i.e. A Colt AR or a Arsenal AK draws more interest than a PSA)

Anyways, you will probably end up purchasing both so you will be glad you invested in quality.

Don't let mag price influence you too much, they are both still relatively affordable.
Ammo will eventually be taxed where no one can afford it so stock up now and don't stress about the current price per round.

They're both great, but absolutely get an AR. There are zillions of accessories, they're cheap right now, etc. I tell people this often, but buy a complete PSA lower and a BCM upper and you're set with a rock-solid AR for about $700.

I have both and like both.... Consider myself an AK guy... Like the wood... More accessories for the AR....
I would even agree that an AR is more accurate... A 7.62 x 39 has more penetration than a 556 and is cheaper ammo.
You can get better deals on Pmags for the AR, but after 10-15, you don't need more...
On accuracy... Don't know how old you are, but I can barely see a target at 500 yards, let alone hit it, so if you want the AR for accuracy, you have to consider the scope.

I got into AR's first because that's what I was familiar with but had also planned on getting at least one AK. Unfortunately, I waited too long and now I just can't justify spending $700 for a rifle that I didn't buy at $400 because I thought the price was too high.
I still want one, but only if the prices come back down.

Another plus for ARs from an AK guy.
My first AR was a build... A great shooter....
If you like doing this kind of thing, AR builds are a blast..... Have all the components for my second one.

Not to hijack here, but on the PSA lower and a BCM upper. Does one combo work better than another? I notice BCM has tons of uppers

Any BCM 16 inch upper, either mid length or carbine gas, should work with a PSA lower with a standard buffer. I have a couple of BCM uppers and 3 lowers and as many PSA uppers and lowers and they all work together.
