the video game Homefront did it, the story they came up with sounds believable enough (here's a video) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQeQWWKKvq4 . The guy who wrote Red Dawn is apparently the same guy who wrote the story for this game.

The better story is that the remake was going to feature the Chinese as the invaders, but was rewritten after the Chinese objected.

I always found it funny that every "so called" invasion of america starts on the west coast. The "safe zones" are always on the east coast. Would take a mighty big army to invade the great state of GA!
