After more than a decade of loading FMJ’s and JHPs I’m back to coated lead for for bulk practice ammo. The cost and availability of the above projectiles has gotten to be to much and too little respectively.
Doing load development right now on BBI 125s. They were cheap and shipped fast. To my do in less than five days via UPS.
Shot lead when I first started reloading. Then tried coated lead. Then tried plated. Was never happy with any of them. At the time both the coated lead and lead were dirty and smokey. And the plated were crap for accuracy. FMJs and JHPs were only fractions of a penny more when you ordered in bulk and were leaps and bounds ahead of the other projectiles.
Recently switched to Clean Shot and I think maybe my issues with coated lead were largely due to powder selection. With clean shot the BBIs are not smokey or dirty and are laser beam accurate. I’m sure I’m better at reloading too after more than a decade of experience.
Still need JHPs for my open gun, but I’m sold on coated bullets for the time time being, unless FMJ and JHP prices come back down to competitive levels, which I don’t see happening any time soon.
I’ve got orders in with Precision Bullets, The Blue Bullet, and DG Bullets right. Gonna try em all.

I've had nothing but great luck with BBI's. I've tried all the coated bullets out there and always go back to BBI. I've probably shot 30,000 or more of the 125's and haven't had a single issue.
I use Alliant Sport Pistol and i don't get any smoke either. Even at an indoor match.
